We were thrilled to be invited to attend the preview of the 85th Anniversary of “living pictures” at the Festival of Arts Museum. The Pageant of the Masters 2018 Production of ‘Under the Sun’ is a spectacular theatrical performance where famous works of art are brought to life on stage. Narrator Richard Doyle guides the audience through the story of each piece, complete with enchanting music provided by a full orchestra. This 90 minute re-creation of classical and contemporary artwork is enchanting with the use of real people posing to look like their counterparts in the original masterpieces of art. We were amazed at the intricate detail used to build each piece of artwork and the dedication and excitement of the volunteers. Director Challis Davy was inspired to choose “Under the Sun” as this years theme by the beautiful changing lights on the foothills of Saddleback Mountain. Davy hopes this theme brings awareness and apprection of the beauty of nature, to focus on artists who choose to paint in the open air. We have chosen our seats and can’t wait to share this unique and special experience with our loved ones. Hope to see you there!

THE SCULPTING ROOM: Here in the Scuplting room, master carvers chisel out the 3D pieces to make the paintings come to life with foam and a variety of knifes.THE PAINTING ROOM: Master painters use original artwork as guides to immulate every last detail to honor the artist. We loved this family of painters helping to create life like props to include in the artwork. This is definitely a family affair. THE MAKEUP ROOM: Here intricately detailed mannequin heads are labeled and painted to help the makeup artists replicate the exact look for each model.THE STAGE: When the performers and sets are complete and ready for the production, stage hands carefully help the actors into place with extreme attention to detail and placement. The lights are then dimmed, the artwork is framed and the lights come on to reveal such a brilliant and colorful display of perfection. The narrator then honors each artist with a beautiful description and history of each piece.
We were lucky enough to view 4 masterpieces.
